January 26, 2010, Golden, BC…. After the lighting of the Olympic
Torch in the town of Golden, British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell
attended a ceremony at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort where he also announced
the approval of the New Master Plan for the resort. “At the Provincial
level we have now approved Kicking Horse’s Master Plan,” stated
Premier Campbell as he addressed the crowd at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort
during the Run of the Fire Torchlight Parade held as part of the Olympic
Torch celebrations in Golden. “It opens up enormous opportunities;
an opportunity to build tourism, to build this resort and to let it take
the next step forward,” continued Campbell.
The newly approved Master Plan which spans a 40-year period calls for
a world class, destination mountain resort with an expanded controlled
recreation area, 20,000 bed units, an 18-hole signature golf course, a
multi-use trail system with 11 proposed lifts and 4,188 acres of skiable
terrain. The plan is a major milestone for the resort and the final step
in the process under the Commercial Alpine Ski Policy will be the signing
of the master development agreement.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) is one of the first new resort projects
built in Canada in the past 25-years. Since inception in December 2000,
KHMR has invested over $100M and has stimulated an additional $100M of
investment from third party developers totaling of over $200M invested
in the local economy to date.
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has enjoyed steady growth since inception
supported by the evolution of the entire region due to the effort and
cooperation of all levels of government. This evolution includes the significant
Trans Canada highway improvement project in the Kicking Horse Canyon,
the Town of Golden’s Official Community Plan, and now the provincial
approval of the new Master Plan for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
